Fertilization
In order to have your lawn green and thick like a carpet, fertilizer must be applied in some manner. GreenCare will custom design a fertilization program to best fit our customers needs. Nitrogen, phosphate, and potash are the three main elements used in lawn care. A ratio of 8-1-3 will provide a normal maintenance level for the homeowner's lawn. Additional amounts of phosphate and potash can be applied if needed, but only after a soil test has been taken to determine the proper levels needed. Phosphate free fertilizer is applied by our company due to environmental concerns.

Timing of maintenance fertilizer applications will be made with weed control products, which will provide you with a weed and feed treatment. Although it is important to fertilize your turf throughout the season, the most optimum time for an application is in October, after the first frost. At this time of the year, nutrients are stored in the grass plant's root system rather than being used for grass blade production.
Fertilizer can be obtained in a commercial grade or an organic form. Most nitrogen products are derived from the air we breathe (atmosphere contains 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% inert). Phosphate is obtained from rock phosphate, which is mined in Florida . Potash is mined in Canada . N, P, & K are naturally occurring elements. Most fertilizer elements are processed from natural substances in order to make them into a more pure and readily available form of fertilizer. Lawn fertilizers are available in either liquid or dry formulations and are equal in performance.
Organic fertilizers are a form of fertilizer that has been through a natural process already. This could be a plant, animal, or human. Most organic forms of fertilizer are of a slow-release variety.
